LINDEN PUBLIC SCHOOL, NJ (Oct. 14) โ€” What comes after high school? A university campus? An apprenticeship? A career protecting the community?

At Linden High Schoolโ€™s College & Career Night on Tuesday, Oct. 13, students and families had an opportunity to move that question beyond โ€œsomedayโ€ and into conversations with people who could help them take the next step.

Hosted by the LHS Counseling Department, the evening brought together more than 80 college, military, trade and career representatives. For seniors, it was a chance to sharpen plans already taking shape. For freshmen, an invitation to start imagining.

Exploring the Possibilities

According to Laura Golebiewski, LHS college and career counselor, the event was designed to help students across grade levels explore postsecondary options, ask questions directly and learn how to make those opportunities more affordable.

The choices reflected the many futures Linden students might pursue. New Jersey and out-of-state colleges joined three historically Black colleges and universities, 18 Hispanic-serving and minority-serving institutions, and three community colleges. Students also connected with cosmetology and career programs, trade schools, unions, apprenticeship programs and military representatives.

Closer to home, the Linden police and fire departments and Union County emergency services offered insight into public safety and civil service careers, including the benefits those professions provide.

Making the Next Step Affordable

Choosing a path also means figuring out how to pay for it. A financial aid presentation by the New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority gave families another place to begin, with information to help them navigate the cost of college and postsecondary education.

Bringing Personalized Pathways to Life

The evening put Linden Public Schoolsโ€™ Strategic Roadmap 2025โ€“2030 into practice. Pillar 2: Personalized Pathways centers on helping students explore futures that reflect their interests and goals. Pillar 5: Community & Stakeholder Partnership strengthens the connections that make those possibilities accessible.
