LINDEN PUBLIC SCHOOLS, NJ (Sept. 22) โ Linden High School senior Andrea Rivas Rosado took her seat at the Linden Board of Education table for the first time Sept. 17, ready to make sure students have a voice in conversations about their education.
Rivas Rosado, who also serves as senior class president, was welcomed as the boardโs student representative for the 2026-27 school year. The position, now in its third year under District Policy 0143.2 - Student Representation to the Board of Education, creates a direct connection between students and district leadership.
In welcoming Rivas Rosado, Superintendent Dr. Atiya Y. Perkins emphasized that her responsibility extends beyond her graduating class to students throughout the district.
A Voice for Every Student
โI am truly honored to be speaking in front of you all today,โ Rivas Rosado said during her inaugural report.
She pledged to be โa voice for opportunities and suggestions for every student, not just seniors,โ while bringing monthly updates, fresh ideas and student perspectives to the board.
Her priorities include creating memorable experiences for her classmates, expanding opportunities for student involvement and keeping safety at the forefront.
And she wasted little time getting started. Her first report covered academics, fall athletics, student activities and upcoming events, giving board members a firsthand look at school life through a studentโs eyes.
The role offers Rivas Rosado an opportunity to develop leadership, communication and collaboration skills while helping her peers participate in decisions that shape their school experiences. โI am so thrilled to be given this opportunity,โ she said, โand I canโt wait to be on this new educational journey with you all.โ
For Linden Public Schools, her appointment puts a central commitment into practice: Students are not simply the focus of district decisions. They have a voice in the conversation.
