LINDEN PUBLIC SCHOOLS, N.J. — The Academy of Excellence hosted a warm and creative pre-Mother’s Day fundraiser Friday afternoon (May 8), bringing staff and students together to celebrate the special women in their lives while raising support for senior graduation activities.

Held in the AoE cafeteria, the event featured a raffle showcasing 25 handcrafted wooden Mother’s Day baskets designed and decorated by students in the Woodshed class after weeks of preparation.

Each basket included an assortment of handmade items mothers and loved ones will enjoy, including ceramic planters with vibrant Pothos plants, macramé hangers created in science class, “Love Mom” mini pillows, handmade bookmarks, homemade chocolates, and personalized picture frames engraved using wood-burning tools.

Art teacher Abdelmonem Zeiden said the fundraiser highlighted both student creativity and collaboration across multiple classes.

“Every basket reflects teamwork, creativity, and pride,” Zeiden said. “All proceeds from the event will go toward supporting our senior graduation.”

The afternoon also featured cookies, coffee, tea, and a decorated photo booth that added to the festive atmosphere as staff and students gathered to celebrate ahead of Mother’s Day
