school nurse day 2026

LINDEN PUBLIC SCHOOLS, NJ -- Today, May 6, 2026, on Tiger Pride Wellness Day and the kickoff of Mental Health Awareness Month recognition across Linden Public Schools, we also proudly celebrate National Nurses Day, marking the beginning of National Nurses Week.

There truly are not enough “thank yous” in the world for the compassion, courage, and grit nurses show every single day. They are caregivers, comforters, advocates, problem-solvers, and steady hands in moments when people need them most.

Across the district, approximately 20 dedicated school nurses serve on the front lines of student wellness each day, supporting the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of thousands of students and staff members.

“What a meaningful day to celebrate on Tiger Pride Wellness Day, National Nurses Day!” said Superintendent Dr. Atiya Y. Perkins. “To our school nurses across the district, your dedication to the health and well-being of our students, staff, and families is nothing short of extraordinary. You are often the first set of caring hands a child reaches for, the steady voice of calm in moments of uncertainty, and the quiet force that keeps our schools running safely every single day. On a day centered on wellness, it is only right that we lift the women and men who make wellness possible for all of us. You are seen, you are valued, and Linden is better because of you.”

From treating everyday illnesses and injuries to responding during emergencies, supporting mental wellness, managing chronic conditions, and building trusted relationships with students and families, the district’s nurses play a vital role in creating safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments across every school building.

To every nurse serving our schools and communities: thank you for showing up with heart, skill, compassion, and unwavering care.
