LINDEN PUBLIC SCHOOLS, NJ โ December 2nd is more than a historical milestone. It is a day that reaffirms who we are as a district. National Special Education Day honors the landmark federal legislation that ensured every child, regardless of ability, has the right to learn, grow, and thrive in a public-school classroom.
At Linden Public Schools, that promise is lived out every day through compassion, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to equity.
Superintendent Dr. Atiya Y. Perkins captured the spirit of the moment with clarity and heart: โIn Linden, we believe every student is a masterpiece in progress. National Special Education Day reminds us that when we create classrooms where every learner is valued, supported, and seen, we elevate not only the child, but our entire community.โ
That belief is echoed by two leaders whose voices anchor this yearโs celebration.
Christopher Kolibas, Director of Special Education, reflected on the districtโs mission: โIn Linden Public Schools, our Special Education programs embody the values of our community. They are grounded in inclusivity, built on high-quality instruction, supported by outstanding related services, and enhanced through genuine collaboration between our district and the City of Linden. We are dedicated to ensuring that every student receives the opportunities, support, and respect they need to reach their fullest potential.โ
For Lymari Cintron, Board of Education Member, this day carries deep personal resonance. Speaking not only as an education leader but as a mother, she offered a reflection that echoed across our district. โThe celebration of National Special Education Day holds profound significance as it officially recognizes public awareness of the essential work and invaluable contributions of educators, parents, and advocates dedicated to supporting students with disabilities. As a parent of a special-needs child myself, I wholeheartedly relate to the families who are currently experiencing unique difficulties and navigating complex hardships.โ
Together, their voices lift up what this day truly represents -- not just the history of IDEA, but the courage, advocacy, and love that continue to break barriers for students with disabilities.
Today, Linden Public Schools proudly celebrates our educators, related service teams, child study teams, paraprofessionals, and families, and most of all, our incredible students.
