Effective 7/1/2023 our Prescription carrier will be BENECARD

Effective 8/1/2023 our Medical plans will be with the School Employees Health Benefits Program (SEHBP). 

NJ Direct 10, NJ Direct 15 and NJ Educators Health Plan (NJEHP) will be administered through Horizon BCBS. Please use this link to review these plans.

The Garden State Health Plan (GSHP) will be administered through Aetna. Please use this link for plan information.

Employees hired after July 1, 2020 have the option to enroll in either the NJEHP or GSHP. The below calculators will give you an idea of what your per pay deductions for those plans will be. 

Open Enrollment Webinar – 05/30/2023

Employees hired prior to July 1, 2020 can enroll in any of the four plans offered by SEHBP. The below calculator will give you an idea of what your per pay deductions will be for the NJ Direct10 and NJ Direct15 plans: 

Contribution Calculator

  1. For Employee Type, select LOCAL EDUCATION

  2. For Coverage Type, select your appropriate level

  3. For Prescription Plan, select Private Prescription Plan

  4. For the annual base pay, enter your salary for 2023-2024

  5. Select Date of Hire

  6. Click on Compare Annual Contribution Amounts

  7. Divide the annual contribution by 20 pays if you’re a 10-month employee, or 24 pays if you’re a 12-month employee.

Once Open Enrollment Ends:  When Can You Change Your Benefits?

Major Life Events

Outside of the annual open enrollment period, an employee may change an enrollment election (i.e., add or delete dependents, change level of coverage) only if there has been a “major life event.”

The following are considered qualifying events:

• Marriage, Civil Union partner or divorce /dissolution of marriage or civil union
• Birth or adoption of a child by the employee
• Termination of employment (or commencement of employment) of the employee’s spouse
• The Spouse/partner has a significant change in employment status
• Taking an unpaid leave of absence by the employee or the employee’s spouse
• You waive medical coverage for yourself or your family members because of other health-care coverage—and you lose that other coverage for certain reasons.
• An enrolled family member dies.

Benefits Info for New Hires

Welcome to Linden Public Schools!

As a new employee, you are eligible for benefits coverage on your hire date. You have the option to enroll yourself and your eligible dependents in the NJ Educators Health Plan (NJEHP), Garden State Health Plan (GSHP), or to waive coverage.

Full-Time Paraprofessionals are eligible for individual medical, prescription and dental coverage only. Dependents may be added to medical and prescription benefits after 3 years and 1 day of employment. If you wish to cover your dependents immediately you may at an additional monthly cost.

Please complete and return the following within 30 days of employment:

  • Enrollment Form with required documentation if enrolling dependents

  • Coverage Waiver, if declining benefits

  • FSA Enrollment Form, if enrolling in a Flexible Spending Account Submit forms by email: Send an Email.

Forms must be submitted within 30 days of employment or you will have to wait to enroll during our open enrollment period. If enrolling, your benefits will be effective as of your hire date.
