This past school year, McManus Middle School Social Studies classes showcased a yearlong effort: their National History Day Project. Students highlighted their work aligned with this year’s theme: Rights and Responsibilities in History.
The project challenged them to explore the balance between individual freedoms and societal obligations across time. As part of the showcase, students selected a topic, conducted in-depth research using primary and secondary sources, and created engaging presentations to share their findings.
This event reflected months of hard work, critical thinking, and creativity offering unique perspectives on how historical events, movements, and figures have shaped our understanding of rights and responsibilities in society. Through their voices and vision, these young historians remind us that the lessons of the past are essential to the responsibilities we carry into the future.
