  • Are accommodations or exemptions available?

Upon the Principal’s recommendation, students may be allowed to wear appropriate clothing other than the standard school uniform for special events such as School Spirit Day, Dress Down Day, or other approved school activities.  In these cases, the principal will provide students and parents/guardians with detailed guidelines about the event and the expected attire.

Failure to comply with the above guidelines will result in disciplinary action, and prohibited items may be confiscated.

  • Exemption Process:

Submit written requests to your building principal with documentation of the religious conflict. Appeals may be made to the superintendent within 10 business days if denied. If unsatisfied, you may appeal to the Linden Board of Education. If unsatisfied, you may appeal to the New Jersey Commissioner of Education.  Students must remain in uniform compliance during any appeal process.

  • Dress Code Violations:
Enforcement of the uniform mode of dress will be done without regard to race, ethnicity, age, religion, sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, economic status, disability, or other diverse backgrounds. Building administration will make the final determination if a student’s attire meets the approved dress code.

Students choosing not to wear the approved dress attire will be disciplined as outlined in the Student/Parent/Teacher Handbook Code of Conduct.   Students will always be given the opportunity to change into the uniform mode of dress, if possible, before any disciplinary actions are taken.

  • Do UCVT (Union County Vo-Tech) students need to wear uniforms?

Yes, but only when attending classes at Linden High School.

    • While on-site at LHS, UCVT students must be in full uniform.

    • When attending classes off-site, the uniform is not required—but students must change into it before returning to LHS.
