As we move deeper into October, I want to share important updates and reminders requiring immediate attention and participation. October is Fire Prevention Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Violence and Vandalism Awareness Month, and Red Ribbon Week. Our schools are working with our Fire Department and Linden Police Department to spread awareness through community and relationship building.
Breast Cancer Awareness Walk: Our second annual breast cancer awareness walk will occur at Tiger Stadium on Saturday, October 18, with registration beginning at 8:30 am. Please come out and show your support for this important cause. This event brings our community together and demonstrates our commitment to supporting one another. Here is the online registration to register for the event. Https://gofan.co/event/4088057?schoolId=NJ20192 Please join our fight against cancer as a unified team.
Student Uniform Update: Revisions are made to Board Policy #5511 Student Dress and Grooming, expanding on what is or is not permitted. The revisions to the board policy will go into effect on November 21, after the second reading at the November 20 Board of Education Meeting. The policy is attached for your review. Reminder, this is the first reading of the policy.
New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA): The Spring 2025 NJSLA individual student report sheets are available to all parents through the Genesis platform https://parents.c2.genesisedu.net/linden/sis/view?gohome=true. I invite you to review your child's results and celebrate their progress. I am pleased with our gains in student achievement, and our district-wide analysis presentation is available on our website.
Elementary Parent-Teacher Conferences: Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place October 28, 29, and 30, with an early dismissal and lunch served for elementary students. You must sign up through our Genesis Portal. These conferences are essential opportunities to discuss your child's progress, ask questions, and strengthen the home-school partnership. Please make every effort to attend and engage with your child's educators.
Addressing Chronic Absenteeism: We need your students to come to school. I am pleased to report that our district maintains a high attendance rate of 90% or higher across all schools as we complete the second month. This reflects the collective commitment of our students, families, staff, and community to prioritizing daily school attendance. A 90% attendance rate is commendable, but we aim to ensure every student is present and engaged daily. We will continue working with families and community partners to maintain this positive trajectory and support the students who need additional encouragement or assistance. Every day matters. Every absence impacts learning. Have your students in school, because we need you. All means all.
Thank you for your continued partnership. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of our students. When we work together, show up, and stay engaged, our students thrive. Let us continue to ROAR together.
Take care and be well, Dr. Atiya Y. Perkins Superintendent of Schools

Dear Linden Families,
We are in the second month of the school year and are off to a great start. Our fall sports are in full swing, and we are proud of our students' athletic performances. September has been an exceptional start to the 2025-2026 school year. Our students have returned with energy and focus, our educators deliver excellent instruction, and our buildings are alive with learning. When I walk through our schools, I see our ROAR values in action every dayโresilience in how our students tackle challenges, opportunities being seized in every classroom, achievement at every level, and strong relationships being built between students and staff.
The transition to our uniform policy has gone remarkably well. Our students look sharp, our families have been supportive, and the policy is helping to create a more focused learning environment. Uniforms reinforce that we are one team with one mission: student success.
In third-grade classrooms, students have shared that the work is challenging as they transition between rooms for different subjects and move from addition to multiplication. Their engagement and willingness to embrace the challenge are impressive. Middle school students have told me the key to success is simply trying their best. At the high school level, students are thinking about life after graduation. I recently spoke with a student who felt barriers between her and her college dreams. These conversations are essential and reflect our strategic plan commitment to giving students a platform to share their thinking. I have also heard concerns that this generation faces many distractions through social media that impact their self-identity, self-worth, and educational stamina. However, our students continue to show up. Our staff has created structured learning environments that promote collaborative thinking and learning. I am proud of how they are helping students navigate their educational experience both in and out of the classroom.
A parent recently informed me that what initially seemed like a lack of resources resulted in staff providing those resources in abundance. The relationships being built with our students and parents are cultivating the partnerships we need. Our strategic plan says we need you because all means all.
Our students are taking grade-level benchmark assessments in reading, language arts, and math to demonstrate their readiness for college and career success in grades 1 through 12. To support their learning, students use our online program Exact Path by Edmentum, which customizes lessons and assessments based on each student's strengths and weaknesses. Students can access Exact Path both at school and at home.
URGENT: Free or Reduced Lunch Application Deadline is October 13 - Free or reduced lunch forms must be completed online before October 13. All parents and guardians should complete the application regardless of whether they plan to accept any support from free or reduced lunch. This is a critical deadline that impacts funding and resources for our entire district. Please act immediately if you have not already done so.
As we continue through October, here are key priorities requiring your engagement. Back-to-school nights allow you to meet your children's educators, the people working with them for the next 158 days. Remember that our home-school connection requires parents to show up. Administrators shared they have been assisting parents in signing up for the Genesis parent portal, which provides access to everything about your child, including attendance, grades, and extracurricular activities. If you need help signing up, contact your schoolโs principal.
I want to remind every student that you belong here, your voice matters, and your potential is limitless. We are building something special in Linden Public Schools, and each of you plays a vital role in that vision. To our families, thank you for trusting us with your children. To our staff, thank you for your dedication. To our students, keep reaching higher. It is an exciting time to be part of Linden Public Schools. We are just getting started, and the best is yet to come. When we ROAR together, there is nothing we cannot achieve.
Take care and be well, Dr. Atiya Y. Perkins Superintendent of Schools

Dear Linden Families,
Safety and security are ever-present concerns for our parents and our Linden community. As parents, you play a critical role in helping us maintain a safe environment for our children. In partnership with Mayor Derek Armstead and local agencies, we all understand that communication with parents is essential when alleged school threats are made. These situations are very difficult and frustrating, but we want to reassure you that every threat is taken seriously and addressed with professionalism, care, and thoughtfulness, with students as our priority.
The Mayor and I both grew up in Linden alongside many of our police officers, firefighters, teachers, and staff who serve our community today. Whether you are a lifelong resident or newer to our community, we all share the same commitment to protecting every student. We are committed to keeping you informed while balancing the need to protect our students and respect the legal limits of what we can share during investigations. We have implemented security protocols that allow us to keep our students safe. A shelter-in-place notification was sent to all families. Our district did not go into a Lockdown procedure.
Violence has no place in our schools. Our team encourages you to speak with your children about reporting anything deemed a threat. As the Mayor says, โIf you see something, say something.โ In our schools, notify an administrator, teacher, or staff member if you see something. Reminder, our notification system includes our new LPS Mobile App available for you to download in addition to text messaging, emails, and telephone calls. Please ensure your contact information is updated in our Genesis Portal. Contact your school's principal if you need assistance accessing or updating your information.
Thank you for your ongoing support and for working in partnership with us to ensure the safety of our students and staff of Linden Public Schools. We will continue to provide updates as they become available, and your safety and peace of mind are our highest priorities during this time. Please contact your building principal with any immediate concerns. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
Be well,

Dear Students,
Wow โ what an incredible start to our school year! Your bright smiles, your laughter echoing through the halls, and the sheer energy you bring have filled my heart with overwhelming joy and gratitude. Every time I step into one of our schools, I am reminded why this community is so special: you. Your teachers have been sharing their excitement with me, too. I have been hearing, โSo far, so good!โ They tell me you are focused and ready to learn โ and I have seen it with my own eyes. Here is what stood out to me as I visited your classrooms and walked through your hallways during these first three days:
R - Resilience: You have shown me what it truly means to be strong. Even when things feel new or challenging, you keep trying. You do not give up. Our varsity football players told me they are determined to keep their heads in the game and practice mental toughness on and off the field. I watched 6th graders wrestle with stubborn locker combinations โ and win! These small victories matter because they reveal a bigger truth: resilience is your superpower.
O - Opportunities: Everywhere I looked, I saw curiosity at work. I heard students asking great questions. Two 7th graders proudly told me how they have been strategizing the fastest route to science class โ not just to avoid being tardy, but to stay on track for their dream of becoming valedictorian, one even saying, โa second time!โ That is the spirit I love to see. Never settle. Keep exploring, keep questioning, keep learning. That is how growth happens.
A - Achievement: One 3rd grader was honest: he would rather play video games at home. (I understand โ we all have days like that!) However, when asked what he was writing for a writing prompt on how he could help in the classroom, he wrote that he would help others by working alongside them. That moment captured the very heart of kindness and leadership. Moreover, our youngest students melt my heart. When I ask our Pre-K and Kindergarten friends how they get home, they excitedly tell me about mommies and daddies, grandparents and siblings, even sharing details about cars, canes, and carriages. Their answers reminded me of how deeply we are all connected โ and how thankful they are for the people who care for them. Achievement is not just about grades but about kindness and inspiring hope.
R - Relationships: Some of our seniors told me they are both nervous and excited for this final year of high school โ a milestone that feels both thrilling and a little bittersweet. Two 7th graders shared that they have been best friends since they were three years old! Friendships like these remind me that relationships are at the core of who we are. Whether it is a lifelong friend or someone you just met, a human connection is what makes our journey meaningful.
Watching our Districtโs Vision come alive as you uncover your unique potential fills me with the most pride. Your creativity, individuality, and style shine through in every project you complete, every question you ask, and every choice you make. Tomorrow, we move into our first whole week of school. Remember this: it is okay to be still adjusting. You are doing wonderfully. We are learning, growing, and ensuring everyone hears our R.O.A.R.
We are also kicking off something exciting this month: our new program, #LPS_ShowUp&ROAR. September is all about attendance โ showing up every single day. Because when you show up, you ROAR. Each day you walk through those doors, you send a message: I am here. I am ready. I am unstoppable. I believe in you โ every single one of you. Keep showing up, keep rising higher, and keep making us proud. And finally, a warm shout-out to our families. Your partnership and support have made this first week smoother. You are the foundation that makes everything possible. To all our Grandparents, Happy Grandparents Day! I am a proud Grammy of five younger humans; it is a beautiful connection.
Take care from a student who is always learning,

Dear Linden Families,
I am joyful and excited to welcome you to the 2025-2026 school year! Students return on Wednesday, September 3, for a half day with lunch served, including September 4th and 5th. Our dedicated teachers and staff return on Tuesday, September 2, for professional learning that accelerates student achievement. Our school buildings are open and ready to welcome you. As we begin our second year of R.O.A.R., we remain committed to empowering each of you. R.O.A.R. stands for:
Resilience (donโt quit; resilience is our superpower) Opportunities(donโt settle; be curious and ask questions) Achievement (inspire hope and unlock peak performance) Relationships (be kind and connect with those around you)
To our students, you are missed, and we cannot wait to see you. As you prepare for this school year, remember that true success comes from believing in yourself. I know you have incredible potential, and I want to see you participate fully in your learning journey. Be actively accountable for yourself and lift those around you by being your wonderful, authentic self. Here is what I believe will make this a phenomenal year: your voice truly matters to us, and we are eager to hear your thoughts, ideas, and dreams. We need you to show up, arrive on time, and give your heart to what you do; amazing things will happen. Families, the new school year brings fresh opportunities for collaboration and connection. I am thrilled to engage with our students as I visit classrooms throughout the coming weeks. To build stronger partnerships with families, I commit to being present, perceptive, and purposeful in my daily interactions with the school community. Please ensure you are signed up for Genesis and have completed all required forms before the school year begins. Our Student/Parent/Teacher Handbooks guide our school practices and expectations, and the link has been emailed to you. You must sign off that you have read the handbooks through your child's Genesis page. Parents must be familiar with the handbook contents to support their child's understanding of our policies and expectations, creating consistency between home and school. If you have questions, please contact your child's teacher, case manager, or principal.
We stand united in promoting community excellence and opportunity on behalf of Linden Public Schools Administration, the Linden Board of Education, and Mayor Derek Armstead. This is our Mission Possible, and together we will help every student learn, grow, and believe in their Linden R.O.A.R. Enjoy these final days of summer.

Saddle Up for Success - Superintendent Spotlight Message 08/15/2025
Dear Linden Families,
There is an unmistakable buzz in the air as we prepare for the 2025โ2026 school year, and I could not be more excited to share the momentum building across our district. This week, I enjoyed spending time with our exceptional district administrators during our annual Admin Week. This year's western-themed kickoff blended fun, team building, and focused vision-setting for the year ahead. From professional learning to collaborative planningโand even a little line dancingโour leadership team showed up with passion and united commitment to student success. My message to them was simple: "We lead together. We solve problems together. Moreover, above all, we stay focused on what is best for our students."
September will be here in two weeks. If this is your first year with us, know that we understand transitions can bring mixed emotions for families and students. Our Early Childhood department will send out Preschool Social Stories books for our families, and our middle and high schools have completed orientation sessions. If you need additional support, please reach outโwe are here to help make this transition smooth and joyful. In addition, Mayor Armstead and the Mayor's Youth Commission, Communities in Cooperation, Inc., and the Linden Department of Parks and Recreation are hosting the annual Free Backpack Giveaway on Monday, August 25, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Promenade in Linden. All families must register for the event using the attached flyer and QR code. This will be a fun experience for our students and families, and we value our partnership with the community.
Schools will send home their welcome back to school letters in the next few weeks. Student schedules are being finalized and will be available through the Genesis portal. Please ensure you have access to Genesis and contact your school if your address or telephone number has changed. As a reminder, District Policy 5511 โ Student Dress and Grooming has been revised and will be presented to the Board of Education for approval at the August 21 board meeting at LINDEN HIGH SCHOOL. Details are available on our website.
Families have been arriving at schools for scheduled pickups to collect their free uniform packagesโfour shirts per student, individually labeled and ready to go. The excitement has been contagious, with smiles and plenty of Tiger pride. To continue with our Tiger Pride, our Linden Tigers Football team will take the field for their preseason opener on Tuesday, August 19, at Edison High School, led by new Head Coach Mark Ciccotelli, a multi-time state champion known for building powerhouse programs. Do not miss our home opener on Friday, August 29, at 7 PM at Tiger Stadium against longtime rival Elizabeth.
On September 1, we launch our new Strategic Plan, a living guide that will shape our work through visibility, responsiveness, and professionalismโall in service to student growth, equity, and excellence. Thank you for being such an essential part of the Linden Public Schools family. We are saddled up, ready to ride, and determined to make this year our best yetโtogether!
Enjoy our August weather and be well,

Dear Linden Families,
As we enter the final week of the 2024-2025 school year, our district has an unmistakable energy of celebration and accomplishment. This week marks a series of meaningful milestones that honor the growth and achievements of our students at every level. Monday, June 9, brings us the joy of our PreK Moving Up Celebrations. Watching our youngest learners take this important step forward reminds us that every educational journey begins with curiosity, wonder, and the support of caring educators and families. Also, on Monday, June 9, we will celebrate our NJROTC Awards Night and Cadet Change of Command Ceremony, where we will recognize our Naval Junior ROTC cadets' outstanding leadership, dedication, and service. This ceremony represents the proud leadership development and citizenship tradition that our NJROTC program instills in our students.
Wednesday, June 11, continues with our Kindergarten Moving Up Celebration, recognizing students who have made tremendous strides in their foundational learning. Friday, June 13, honors our 5th Grade Moving Up Celebration as these students transition to middle school. From my experience as a middle school principal, I have witnessed students push through their initial fears to excel. They come in needing a babysitter and leave being a babysitter, signifying the tremendous growth they will make.
Our Linden High School students are in their final sprint, with Final Exams from June 11-16. Please note the early dismissal schedule without lunch during exam days, as our seniors and underclassmen demonstrate the knowledge and skills they have developed throughout the year. We expect them to R.O.A.R.
As we approach Flag Day on Saturday, June 14, I am reminded of the significance of this day in honoring our American flag and commemorating its adoption in 1777. As the wife of a Navy veteran, I sincerely appreciate what our flag representsโthe freedom, sacrifice, and service of those who have defended it. This is a meaningful time to reflect on the values our flag embodies and to teach our students about patriotism and respect for our nation.
This week represents more than just ceremonies and exams. It is a testament to our students' dedication, our educators' commitment, and the support of our families and community. Every moving-up celebration tells a story of growth, perseverance, and the power of quality education.
Enjoy these celebrations. They are well-earned moments of pride for our entire district.
Take care,
Dr. Atiya Y. Perkins

Superintendent's Spotlight Message - 05/04/2025.
Dear Linden Families,
This week, we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week (Monday-Friday), honoring individuals who create remarkable learning environments for our students. Our gratitude goes to each staff member for their commitment to excellence aligned with our district goals. In alignment with our district vision, our teachers have also developed respect for diversity through their preparation for our students to be productive global citizens. Also, our teachers have embodied our districtโs mission through their dedication to ensure that each student achieves their maximum potential through inspirational guidance and instructional excellence. Happy Teacher Appreciation Week.
Last week, during our celebration of seniors on College Decision Day, May 1, our implementation of interventions for achievement was visible. Throughout the school year, our staff have focused on our studentsโ diverse learning needs and helped them with their chosen 3E pathways: College, Enlistment, and Employment. Students were reminded that what truly matters is not where they go but what they do when they get there. To build on our home-school connection and fulfill our R.O.A.R. principles, let us continue to promote our interconnectedness of our shared purpose, encourage our students to measure success through their actions, and remind them that their paths are uniquely carved out for them.
Our district understands the value that our caring Nurses bring to our schools. They will be recognized on Tuesday, May 6, for National Nurses Day. To our Nurses, thank you for the essential healthcare support you provide that enables our students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Your compassionate care exemplifies our districtโs mission to promote distinction through our commitment to excellence.
Wednesday, May 7, is our In-Service Day, with a ยฝ day dismissal. Lunch will be served. This coincides with Tiger Wellness Wednesday, focusing on social-emotional wellness for our entire district community to demonstrate our focus on wellness. Please wear Tiger Pride clothing on Wednesday to show our R.O.A.R. spirit as we continue promoting the academic, social, and mental well-being that transforms educational outcomes for our students.
On behalf of the Board of Education, they extend their sincere appreciation to all our educators during Teacher Appreciation Week, our school nurses on National Nurses Day, and our entire staff for their continuous dedication to academic excellence and student well-being that guide our educational community.

Spring is in full swingโand so is our Tiger momentum. Please note that Spring Recess begins tomorrow, Thursday, April 17, with a half-day for students, and no lunch served. We look forward to welcoming everyone back, recharged, refreshed, and ready to finish the school year strong, on Monday, April 28. Districtwide testing begins Tuesday, April 29, at the high school, with assessments continuing into May for all grade levels.
While school may be out, our gratitude continues to grow. During National Volunteer Week, we recognize the many volunteers, especially our parents, who uplift our schools through their time, talents, and commitment. From classroom help and PTA leadership to field trip chaperones and event support, your involvement makes a powerful impact on our students and staff. Thank you for being the roots of our success.

Superintendent's Spotlight Message 03/30/2025. Dear Linden Families,
Today, on our last Sunday of March, we remind you that there is no school tomorrow, March 31, in celebration of Eid al-Fitr, also known asโโ the โfestival of breaking of the fast,โ an important religious holiday. We return on Tuesday, welcoming April and the promise of spring. While we navigate the final quarter of our academic year, our counseling teams continue to develop resources to help manage testing anxiety, and we are scheduling additional wellness activities throughout April. Remember that small breaks, physical activity, and healthy sleep routines significantly impact well-being and academic performance. Here is a look ahead for April....
โข Autism Acceptance Month and I am proud of our ongoing work to create genuinely inclusive learning environments. Our special education teams continue to implement practices that recognize neurodiversity. When we design classrooms that work for all learners, everyone benefits.
โข National Poetry Month; our language arts teachers have planned exciting activities that invite students to find their creative voice. Poetry is not just for English classโyou will see mathematical poetry, scientific verses, and historical narratives throughout our buildings this month.
โข Financial Literacy Month is an excellent opportunity to strengthen essential life skills. Several of our departments are collaborating on real-world applications of financial concepts. I encourage families to extend these conversations at home by discussing household budgeting, saving strategies, and responsible financial decision-making.
โข Earth Day arrives on April 22; our science classes and environmental clubs will lead initiatives to enhance sustainability practices. From campus clean-ups to energy awareness students are developing the knowledge and skills to become environmental stewards.
Spring weather brings renewed importance to our emergency preparedness. Remind new drivers to remain vigilant, as more people tend to be outdoors. We have scheduled our crisis drills and updated our emergency communication systems. Your family's awareness of these procedures is essentialโplease review your home safety protocol and your child's school information and ensure your contact details are current in Genesis.
As always, I welcome your feedback and partnership. On behalf of the Linden Board of Education, they are holding a special Board of Education Meeting on April 1 at 6:00 pm to discuss the Uniform Modes of Dress Board Policy. Continue to be the voice of education, and I look forward to engaging with you throughout your studentโs educational experience.

Dear Faculty, Students, and Staff, I am excited to invite you to join me for a significant milestone in my educational journey. On Thursday, March 27, at 5:00 pm, I will defend my dissertation "Exploring how Principals Use Emotional Intelligence andย Effective Communication in Post-Pandemic Schools: A Qualitative Study." A dissertation is an in-depth research project required to earn a doctoral degree. It represents years of study, research, and writing to contribute new knowledge to the field. This aligns perfectly with our 3E pathway, where we encourage students to explore their future in Education, Enlistment, or Employment.
As your superintendent, I know that change and learning are constant. I strive to model lifelong learning and innovation to improve our educational system. I would be honored to have our educational community watch my defense and see your superintendent as a student, tooโnervous yet excited about this culminating academic challengeโa Doctor of Education degree in Global Training and Development. Dear Linden Families,
Yesterday was International Women's Day during Women's History Month. The educational women in our district are achieving their milestones but are also innovation-driven and future-focused on reshaping the next generation's global landscape. The day is more than a celebrationโit is a call to action. A call to uplift, inspire, and empower every woman and girl in our schools and beyond. As educators and leaders, we have the privilege and responsibility to shape a future where every girl sees no limits to her potential, and every student understands the power of equality.
Let us spark conversations, encourage leadership, and recognize the strength, resilience, and brilliance of the women and girls in our schools and community. Through our words, actions, and daily commitment to inclusivity, we ensure that Linden Public Schools remains a place where all students can thrive, dream big, and break barriers.
Continuing the theme of leadership, I am proud to announce that the Linden High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) unit has earned the recognition of being the largest unit in the nation, with an impressive number of close to 600 cadets enrolled in the program. The Linden High School NJROTC unit was established in 1986 and originally had approximately 90 cadets in the first years of its establishment. Our current NJROTC cadet population makes it the largest NJROTC unit in the country.
Interesting facts about NJROTC: total NJROTC units nationwide: 641; total cadets nationwide: 70,455 Area 2 NJROTC units (Tri-state): 26, NJ NJROTC units: 19. Our NJROTC Unit has received many awards, especially during our annual military inspection. The cadets of Linden Public Schools perform countless hours of community service throughout our city, county, and state. Students, Cadet Captain Josue Carpio, Regimental Commanding Officer, Cadet Commander Denae Griffin, Regimental Executive Officer, Cadet Master Chief Alonzo Smith, Regimental Command Master Chief, and Cadet Commander Alivia Young-Bey, Regimental Operations Officer under Commander Boye Decker, are recognized for inspiring, educating, and empowering others.
Happy Day Light Savings Time. Enjoy the sunlight and rest well this evening.

Please monitor the weather forecasts for this week and prepare for potential disruptions during the school day. I continue to meet with our inclement weather committee, including City Officials. I will update you on adjustments necessary for the school day or after-school activities due to the weather. Superintendent's Spotlight Message - 01/26/2025. Dear Linden Families, At Linden Public Schools, our commitment is to provide a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where everyone feels valued and protected. In challenging times, this commitment becomes even more vital. Recent discussions about potential federal policies targeting immigrant families have raised significant concerns nationwide. On behalf of the Linden Board of Education, we want to reaffirm our stance: Linden Public Schools will always be a haven for every student, regardless of their background or immigration status.
Linden's strength lies in the diversity and contributions of every community member. By law, every child has the right to a public education, and we uphold this fundamental principle. Immigration status will never determine a student's access within our district. If the national dialogue around immigration enforcement brings uncertainty or fear, we are here to help. Our school counselors, teachers, administrators, and Welcome Center staff are ready to provide support.
To ensure we are fully prepared to meet the needs of our students and families, I have established a proactive committee with the Director of our Multi-Language Learners Department dedicated to addressing the potential impacts of federal immigration policies. Our goal is to protect the stability and well-being of our students while creating a comprehensive plan to address these challenges with care and compassion. We assess our community's challenges and concerns and develop protocols to provide students and families with social, emotional, academic, and logistical support. We also coordinate with City Officials, the New Jersey Department of Education, and education experts to offer resources and guidance.
We encourage you to contact your child's school office or our Welcome Center's Department if you need assistance. We also invite our community partners, local organizations, and all who share our values to join us in standing united for the dignity and rights of every family. Together, we can ensure Linden Public Schools remains a district that promotes equity, compassion, and inclusion.
Take care,

Dear Linden Families,
As we continue into the new year, I want to share a few important updates and reminders:
โข Schools Closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day
All Linden Public Schools will be closed on Monday, January 20, 2025, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This national holiday is a time to honor Dr. King's legacy of service, equality, and justice.
โข Winter Weather Advisory
As we prepare to return on Tuesday, January 21, we anticipate frigid temperatures after snowfall today. Please dress warmly, and ensure your children are dressed appropriately for the winter.
โข Health and Wellness Reminder
As always, if you or your child are feeling unwell, we encourage you to stay home until you are fever-free for at least 24 hours. Your health and well-being are our priority, and we appreciate your cooperation in helping prevent the spread of illness.
โข Looking Back at the New Yearโs Start
o As we reflect on the first two weeks of January, I am especially thankful for the positive energy across our schools. On January 8, we celebrated Tiger Pride Day by pressing the pause button for our first-ever Wellness Day. Students and staff came together to focus on mindfulness, self-care, and the importance of mental and physical wellness.
o On January 9, we proudly celebrated National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day at School No. 4. We were honored to welcome Chief of Police David Hart, alongside members of the Superior Officers Association and the Linden Police Benevolent Association (PBA). Their presence not only brought excitement to the students but also symbolized the departmentโs commitment to promoting strong community ties.
Thank you for your continued partnership in making Linden Public Schools a place where students R.O.A.R. Letโs embrace the rest of the winter season with Tiger Pride!
Take care, and stay warm,
Atiya Y. Perkins

Superintendent's Spotlight Message - 01/05/2025.
Dear Linden Families,
With Winter weather on the horizon, the possibility of snow days is upon us. As a district, we understand that deciding to open or close schools significantly affects our Linden families. Please save this letter for future reference.
Take some time with your family to plan if there is a need for childcare if our District should have a delayed opening, early dismissal, or full-day school closure. When weather is a concern, we aim to ensure our families are updated with timely and accurate information. We utilize several tools to communicate information regarding weather-related delays, dismissals, or closings.
If you utilize the Linden Public Schools before/after care, or 21st Century, please remember that if school is closed, these services will also be closed; if school opening is delayed, they will also be delayed. Keep in mind Union County Vocational-Technical Schools operate on a different schedule. Students attending UCTVS will be contacted about delayed early dismissal or full-day school closure. PreK 3/4 students attending external providers are to follow the Linden Public Schoolโs delays, dismissals, or closings.
I receive updated forecasts from the City of Linden Office of Emergency Management and the National Weather forecasting system. I am in touch with our district security, maintenance supervisors, and the City of Linden, as information is fluid in terms of road conditions, to discuss the weather and any safety concerns associated with it that might impact the school day in terms of getting students and staff to school and home safely. The Linden DPW and district crews will work to create safe access to all buses and buildings; however, as mentioned, I get regularly updated forecasts from our Emergency Services partners.
If we must change our daily schedule, we will do our best to communicate a decision to families via phone, email, and text before 6:00 AM. It will also be posted on the website. If you do not hear anything via phone/email/text or see anything on the website, then school is open, and staff and students should report at their regular time.
We have many LHS Seniors who are new drivers (I also have one) - PLEASE review winter driving with them: accelerating and decelerating slowly and make sure they clear ALL the snow from their vehicles before using them, including the car's roof.
The district believes that our students are better served academically and socially by being in school. When deciding about weather-related schedule changes, our top priority is ensuring that our students and staff are safe. Although safety is important to us, we respect your decision to keep your child/yourself at home if you feel conditions are unsafe.
Take care, and stay warm,
Atiya Y. Perkins
