21st Century Community Learning Center

The Linden Public School District is proud to announce the continued implementation of the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) Program, a highly competitive, multi-year grant awarded to Joseph E. Soehl Middle School. This federally funded initiative is designed to provide high-quality, comprehensive after-school programming for students in grades six through eight, operating Monday through Friday from 2:45 PM to 5:45 PM.

The 21st CCLC Program is committed to supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of students by providing meaningful learning experiences that extend beyond the traditional school day. Each activity is thoughtfully designed to engage students while incorporating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) concepts, encouraging creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, and innovation.

The program consists of three primary components: Homework Tutorial Support, Structured Enrichment Classes, and Recreational Activities. The Homework Tutorial component provides students with a dedicated time and supportive environment to complete assignments, collaborate with peers, develop effective study habits, and prepare for assessments under the guidance of certified academic staff and highly qualified paraprofessionals.

Structured enrichment opportunities provide students with hands-on, engaging experiences across a variety of content areas, including Language Arts, Mathematics, STEM, Media Technology, Physical Education, and Character Education. Through these courses, students are encouraged to explore new interests, strengthen academic skills, and build confidence through active participation.

The recreation component offers students a wide range of opportunities to explore their interests, develop new skills, and build positive relationships with peers. Activities include Open Gym, Jewelry Making, Media, Art, Photography, Yoga, Miniature Golf, and many other engaging experiences.

Beyond daily programming, the 21st CCLC Program values the importance of family and community partnerships. The program provides numerous opportunities for families to become involved through monthly parent workshops, family engagement nights, educational trips, community service initiatives, and guest speakers. These experiences help strengthen connections among students, families, schools, and the greater Linden community.

The Linden Public School District remains committed to providing a safe, supportive, and enriching environment where every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
